Surprise of my life

Almost every night after the girls are in bed, I sequester myself in the study and scrap my heart out on the computer until DH tells me it's time for bed. More often than not each day I am able to exchange instant messages online with a scrapping friend in the Netherlands. Nika (and I think I'm the only one to call her that by the way) is like a kindred spirit. We connected right from the start, and have become fast friends over the past year. And I don't hold it against her that she's an American. Really. ;) Whether we're sharing the events of our day, showing each other our latest scrapbook pages, or cracking jokes at one another...we both treasure the time we get to chat, and realise we have found a genuine friend on the other side of the world.

Well, to cut a long story short, tonight she sent me a message online saying she had a surprise for me. OK, go, I said. Then my phone rings. I'm totally thinking it was DH calling from work again, but no, there's an American voice on the line. It was NIKA! Oh my goodness, I had to sit down before I fell down! After the initial screams of delight (sorry 'bout that Nika, hope your ears are OK), we had a fabulous chat for almost an hour. An hour!! And it went by so fast! I am still on a high from it. I just can't believe she called. Nika, you know now that next time you say you have a surprise for me, I'm gonna be waiting for a knock on my front door!! :)

You must be safely at Dawn and George's by now. Talked to Petria tonight. Everything is going well. She (and Brent) were in England at the weekend checking up on the baby with the experts and decided she needed to go back to a shop she had seen to buy a baby blanket. Before shopping they stopped off to pick up their mail and found the baby shawl I'd sent. They absolutely couldn't believe the timing of it. Brent suggested that they ask some folk at home if they would handknit some stuff for a winter baby girl but Petria told him "you can't just ask people to do that." Strange thought! Wondered if Dawn would knit a couple of singlets like she made your girls? Just a thought. I'll look through the boxes for any knitted stuff.
